What is W3C?

W3C stands for World Wide Web Consortium.  It is a group that develops software standards, or recommendations for the World Wide Web.  By conforming to the W3C standards, web technologies become compatible with each other, allowing the World Wide Web to reach its full potential.

Why is W3C important?

In order for the World Wide Web to fulfill its full potential, certain guidelines must be followed.  It is important that software developed for use on the Web be compatible with each other.  The W3C sets these guidelines, or recommendations, and software developed with these recommendations in mind become compatible with hardware and other software that have adhered to these standards.
